OUR RETREAT

Join us at the beautiful Shambhala Center in Golden Bay in the South Island of New Zealand. The retreat overlooks the bay with a private beach for walks, swimming and snorkeling. Our schedule each day includes yoga, meditation and nearby excursions to stunning beaches, and national parks.

THE RETREAT Centre

Shambhala retreat centre is an eco-friendly oasis located in the heart of Golden Bay, in the South Island of New Zealand.

About your Guides

Saraswati Clere, ERYT500, is an Award-winning film-maker and the owner of Yoga Kula. Saraswati is well known for her ability to convey the essence of the wisdom teachings of yoga with exceptional clarity, insight, and relevance to students of all levels and from all walks of life. Saraswati teaches with a combination of rigor and challenge balanced with sensitivity, humor, and compassion.

Carlos is steeped in all aspects of the yoga tradition during more than 40 years of practice and study. He spent 18 years of those as a monk of the Saraswati order. During this time he learned the various systems of Indian Philosophy and immersed himself in the practice of yoga. He combines this experience with his academic background, which includes two Masters Degrees - one in Sanskrit from U.C. Berkeley and the other in Religious Studies from U.C. Santa Barbara.

FAQs

  • Getting there: It’s a two hour drive from Nelson, over the Takaka hill, through the township of Takaka and on another 17 kms towards Collingwood to Onekaka.

    By Car

    Take Highway 60 in the direction of Takaka-Collingwood, turn right at our posted sign 100 metres before the Mussel Inn.

    By Bus

    For guests without transport there is bus service from the Nelson i-Site which will drop you at the Mussel Inn / Onekaka. For bus schedules and fares, visit the Golden Bay Coachlines website.
