Join us in this workshop for new and experienced practitioners where we will explore four different types of meditation so you can see what resonates most with you, learn simple foundations for practice, discuss the neuroscience behind meditation, and learn how to establish an at home practice.
Have you ever wondered if meditation could help you find more calm or joy in your life? Have you been unsure about how to start, re-start or deepen a meditation practice? This workshop is designed for people interested in establishing or deepening a meditation practice on the path to find greater well being. The teachings are accessible for beginners who want to learn the tools and techniques of meditation, and appropriate for experienced meditators looking to deepen or re-connect with their practice.
In this workshop we will discuss different types of meditation and their unique benefits. We will experiment with four types of mediation, enabling you to explore what works best for your mind and body:
· Body Scan - Connect with the body and relax
· Breath Awareness - Find calm and focus
· Metta - Send loving kindness
· Bhavana - Tap into joy
We will also discuss some of the common misconceptions about meditation such as, meditation means stopping thoughts, meditation is boring and physically uncomfortable, or my mind is too busy to meditate. From there, we will look at the practical neuroscience of meditation, which shows why these practices are proven to relax the nervous system and how they are available to you at any time. We will also look at how to stick with an at home practice by making it deeply enjoyable and designed for your individual needs.
Please bring a notebook or journal to take part in exercises during class.
