Sufi Devotional Music and Kirtan with Sukhawat Ali Khan

Join us for this gathering to explore Sufi devotional music and Kirtan from North India and Pakistan lead by Sukhawat Ali Khan, an Eleventh Generation Singer of the Sham Chaurasi Gharana of hindustani music in Pakistan. Sukhawat will share sufi poetry and demonstrate the basic characteristics and phrasing of simple raags commonly used in Hindustani music. Everyone will be invited to chant and sing qawwali songs.
Sukhawat Ali Khan will be accompanied by a singer and his student of 16 years Vivek Anand. Jun Ishimuro on keyboard and flute. Acoustic Guitar accompaniment by Daljeet Singh. Drums and percussion by Ryan Melnick and Saima Jamshed.
